assistance

Andrew Lumley

Dear Image J interest Group,

I was wondering if someone would be able to help me with a question I have
regarding the freehand selection tool in Image J...?

My question is - what units does imageJ use when calculating area using the
freehand selection tool?

Iv attached a picture to this email to show you what I mean.

I would be really grateful if someone could help with this issue.

Best regards,

(See attached file: area units.png)

Andrew

Re: assistance

Michael Schmid
Hi Andrew,

measurements in ImageJ are in calibrated units.  E.g., if your image is calibrated to give lengths in millimeters, the area is in square millimeters.

If you want to know the area in pixels, you can remove the scale in the Analyze>'Set Scale' menu.
Alternatively, use a simple macro
  getRawStatistics(nPixels);
  print(nPixels);

Michael
