colour weightings

ImageJ includes a colour weighting option (Red 0.299, Green 0.587, Blue0.114) for converting RGB images into greyscale.
The basis for the weightings is the relative human perception of the different colours emitted by cathode ray tubes - a technology that has fallen into disuse.
Do the weightings still apply to flat screen monitors or are there replacements ?

They are similar if the set wavelengths for red, green and blue colors are
the same.
