Hello Pierre,
if you use straight line selection, you can grab the selection in the
middle and move it around to measure another line-segment that is
parallel to the first one. You can use Edit>Selection>Rotate to rotate
the straight line selection by 90 or -90 degrees to get a perpendicular
line segment.
