four-color map implementation

Thank you in advance.

Does anyone have an implementation of
a four-color map on the particles of a binary
image?

Actually, any number of colors, as long as no
adjoining particles have the same color.

The application is pseudo grain-images (ASTM E112)
using random noise as seeds followed by Voronoi.
