help on getting automatic contour

Dear all

I'm working on shape analysis of fish otoliths and just started using Thomas
Boudier's snake pluggin to perform Fourier analysis.
I would like to know if there is another way, rather than the freehand
selection, to draw the contour automatically from digitized images.
