measure mean intensity for each line within an oval selection

I am new in the use of ImageJ, and although I have tried several things, I can't come up with a solution for my problem: I want to approach a cell nucleus (DNA stain) with an oval selection. Then I would like to calculate the mean intensity for each line of pixels within the oval. Does anyone have suggestions to accomplish this? I can get the coordinates of the oval, but I don't know how to use them in the macro to select the pixels that are only within the oval. Is a mask an option?
