measurement of dispersal

Adam Hurlstone
Dear all
Hoping to get some help. I'm injecting fluorescent cancer cells into the abdomens of zebrafish embryos. Some of the cell lines spread out throughout the abdomen of the fish and some don't (they remain clustered at the site of injection). I hope to quantify this effect. I'm looking for suggestions of how to measure the extent of dispersal of the cells. I was imagining using ImageJ to calculate the centre of a shape (should be a polygon rather than a simple oval or circle) that constrains all the points of fluorescence and then calculate the average distance of each point from this centre. But open to other ideas. Would anyone be able to help write a program for this? Perhaps it already exists. Would be delighted to acknowledge the help.
Kind regards,
