montages involving confocal or 2-photon image stacks?

hi, is it possible to generate a montage between two or more image stacks,
so that the n'th images across all the image stacks get montaged
together,with the resulting output being a new image stack, where each image
in the stack is a montage?

I think that what you want is implemented in fully automatic mode in
Stephan Preibisch's stack phase-correlation plugin:
