opening CIE Lab tiff?

Bill Christens-Barry
How can I read in a tiff image whose photometric interpretation is CIE Lab? I've tried opening and
importing in ImageJ v1.43i, but the values are being misconstrued as RGB. I also haven't found a
plugin that does this. So far, external conversion to RGB is the only method I've found to do this.

Thanks.

Hi Bill,

The CIELAB color space is quite different from normal RGB. Support within
Bio-Formats could be possible, but how would expect it to be handled?
Implicit conversion of color values to RGB (using formulas such as those at
http://www.easyrgb.com/index.php?X=MATH)? My cursory understanding of CIELAB
(gleaned from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lab_color_space) leads me to
believe that such a conversion would redistribute the color values in a
non-invertible way, thus losing precision. Is that still OK? If so, would
you be willing to send us a sample CIELAB TIFF file?
