I posted the problem below. One response questioned the version of
Java and IJ. We upgraded the Java to the latest 1.6, and ImageJ has
always been latest beta. Still, adjusting the histogram by
Brightness/Contrast or Color Balance continues to corrupt the
histogram of the visible slice as though the right hand histogram
limit has been dragged far to the left. A problem that occurs on 8-
bit, 16-bit and RGB images, but doesn't occur on every file or on all
channels.
On the other hand, with the new version of Java, we can now assign
>1.8 Gb RAM on a 64-bit Linux system. Currently setting the ImageJ
memory to 5120 Mb.
