questions about the DICOM images imports

Hello:

 I found out that ImageJ just works for uncompressed DICOM images and it
even doesn't import compressed DICOM. But in reality we work on compressed
DICOM much more often than "raw" uncompresed DICOM.

 I am wondering if there are some upgrade and/or  plugins that can be used
for compressed DICOM... or any standalone programs to uncompress the
compressed DICOM?
