Image intensity processing

Hi,
I am aware that probably answer to my question was already posted somewhere on this forum (and that the result I am looking for can be achieved by simply trying many filters and plugins) but because I am completely new to ImageJ I simply hope that experienced users can speed up my learning process.
So I have an image as presented below (from fluo mic.) and I need to enhance the fluorescence (contrast) as much as possible (to keep good balance between background and object). I have played with many filters in the last two days (different contrast settings, gamma, blur, smooth, etc.). But is there a combination of filters or a plugin that you would recommend? (Something that maybe first blurs the background or remove noise – first filter and then second that increases brightness)?
