If you have experience programming in something like C, then chapters 2 and
3 in the e-book "Thinking in Java" by Bruce Eckel probably can get you
started for ImageJ programming. At least its  free.

A caution though. the way you use methods as opposed to functions seems
a little odd if your experience with programming is not object oriented.
Also, since things like images are actually references, changing pixel
values inside of a method wilkl change them outside of the method as well.
