Driving me nuts

Hi folks for something so simple this is starting to drive me nuts. Here it is.

All I need to do is to find out how much of a colour in percentage terms is in a photo.

I can take photos so that a certain chosen colour is the only one recorded and the rest of the photo is Black and White. So I may have a largely black and white photo with some areas of red - I need to know what is the percentage area of red.

Whats your thoughts.
