Background correction

Hi,
 
I have a series of grey scale SEM (BSEM) images where the image becomes progressively brighter in a directional manner.  I cannot obtain a blank image for correction. Is there another method to do this ? I did look about it seems that the pseudo flat field correction plugin might help, but I cannot locate it.
