I think that is a problem. I do not see the advantage to install it system-
wide in computers where I am the only user. Of course if one is an admin of a
multi user setup it might be handy, but I have no experience on this.

Yes, that would be a problem when installed in the system as opposed to the
user space. I wonder whether the rpm is being packaged by somebody who
actually uses IJ because if s/he did, the issues you mention should have been
resolved by now (IJ rpms have been available in those repos for some time).

It allows to test the behaviour of older versions when one finds a bug. Not
sure everybody uses this often, but I have used a few times and it is quite
handy.
