technique for particle analysis

Dear,

I am a beginer in particle analysis to measure the pixel area and the number
of particles.
Enclosed is an example.
The island parts in white color should be treated as an indepent particle.
But my ImageJ figured out only two small dots as particles.

Would you please give a comment how to manipulate it?
