I've been using 7 on my Lenovo X61 for about a month and installed
Image J last week just to test it out.  It seems to run fine but I get
a notification that 'a running program in incompatible with some of
the visual effects of Windows 7'.  But I'm 99% sure that it's just
telling me that the normally translucent window borders in the OS will
not be that way with Image J.  It runs fine with no problems other
than that little notice.  Very quick compared to my imaging rig
attached to the scope!
