Wilhelm,

1) Backward compatibility is essential for all users. If you in your
effort do not aim to provide it all your efforts will in the end turn
futile because the community will not endorse them.

2) Providing a different set of APIs is in fact a good idea so that the
developers can benefit from the advanced features of Java. Swing is the
first thing that comes in mind.

For the rest I agree with Albert and Wayne.
