Advice on image analysis in the time domain

I am evaluating ImageJ and I welcome any hints on the following:

"How useful is ImageJ in analyzing a series of images (a movie) with
respect to the time evolution?"

Typically I want to evaluate how the average intensity value (in gray
scale) of a region evolves from image to image and make a plot of this
evolution.

I would appreciate any advices as to the suitability of ImageJ in that
respect or if this functionality is beyond its primary scope.
