Yes sometimes it appears to happen immediately, other times after
several tries.

I logged the min/max settings returned repeating Set and OK using your
image:

I cannot make much sense to this... You can see when a value reaches 0,
it does not necessarily remain 0.

Yes that is right, when the settings in the threshold window change, so
does the image in agreement with this.
