gaussian fitting

Hi all,
 I"m working on trying to develop a tracking plugin for ImageJ. I know
there are some good one out there most of them seem to use the center of
mass to find the middle of the point. I would like to try and take my
data, say a 4x4 grids of pixels, and fit it to a 2-D gaussian. I've
looked around bit and can't seem to figure out exactly how to do this,
can someone point me in the right direction, either to another plugin,
or a book or a website or something...
