Hey Markus,
selections are only shown in an additional layer; if you want to have
them in the image, you need to draw them: Ctrl+D or Edit>Draw. This
turns the selection into "real pixels" in your image. You can define the
way how they are drawn under Edit>Options>Colors and Edit>Options>Line
Width.
