Thanks Curtis for the tips. I will have a look.
I have the suspicion that this is some weird behaviour introduced in Java 1.6
(because 1.5 seems fine). I tried 1.7 but images lock non stop (I guess it is
too early version).

Unfortunately IJ becomes quite unusable when there are many images open.
