Merging brightfield and RGB images

Hello everyone,

I am trying to merge a brightfield images with images I have RGB-merged.  If
I try to put in the merged image with the brightfield image in the
red/green/blue channel, the brightfield image is then converted to whichever
channel into which it was loaded.

I attempted to find a plugin that would enable me to merge brightfield
images with another image, but to no avail.  Does anyone have such a
plugin?  If so, where could I find it?
