viewing large images with scrollbars

Hi All,

I have tiff images which are  512 X 10,000  pixels. The problem is when I open them, i can see a very narrow image, which fits into the screen, but it is almost impossible to see something there. It looks like it was scaled down to fit the screen. Is there a way to open this kind of image without scaling it (so it would actually be 512 pixels wide), and to have scrollbars to be able to view all the image, and it would not be a shrinked image.
