No desire to reinvent the wheel-local measuring

Dear ImageJ`ers,

I wrote a macro in NIH-Image for a study years ago to select an ROI
within an image, divide it into a fine detailed array of 'cells',
average the density within each cell and print on the image the
determined value.

I am not familiar with Java or the ImageJ macro language. Does anyone
have a macro close to this already that I might use as a start and
perhaps modify for my purposes?
