how to use built-in macro functions in a Plugin

I want to use some built-in macro functions in a plugin and return some results from the macro back to the plugin.
let's say, the built-in function is:
getStatistics(area, mean, min, max, std, histogram)
I need to return the value of min and max back to a plugin.
Can someone tell me how to do that?
