If you go into Analyze->Set Measurements, you can determine the...
measurements which will be provided.  For example, the Bounding
Rectangle option will give you the "maximum width and height of the
outlined portion" that - I think - you are looking for.

Katherine, the measurements are the average pixel value of the pixels in
the ROI, the Max and Min are the largest value and smallest value of the
pixels in the ROI.  --- Mike

Subject: Analyzing Images HELP

Hi,
I am very new to this program and would appreciate any advice in
analyzing qCT images.
I am using the tool that allows me to circumscribe a portion of the
image, but would like to know if there is a command/plugin that will
allow ImageJ to give me the dimension (in pixels) of the maximum width
and height of the outlined portion.
When I obtain measurements from Analyze>Measure a small window pops up
with values for Mean, Maximum, Minimum and Area.  I am not exactly sure
what the first three measurements refer to, so any explanation would be
helpful as well.
Thank you so much.
~Katherine
