outline area (find edges of area) on MRI

Dear All,

I am looking for help to automate the process of outlining areas on
MRI images (grey scale). I am not good in image analysis and
unfortunately the same applies to programming.
My aim is to get X,Y coordinates of centres of these areas which could
be achieved using measure&label plugin kindly made by Wayne Rasband
(thanks Wayne).
So far, I have outlined these areas manually and applied that plugin
to each one of them but I would like to automate the process of
outlining by some sort of snake algorithm or threshold. I would like
to be able to apply that automated process of finding area outline
(finding the edges) based probably on manual outline of a smaller area
inside and then apply measure&label plugin to get my measurements.
I will really appreciate help.
