Movie capture?

I have a really stupid question. I'm capturing Infrared images with an old
Vicam (3Com) camera. It has a maximum exposure of 1/4 second and I would
like to capture a stack of images (like amateur astronomers do with AVI
files). I've tried just about everything I can think of and cannot get a
video to save. I don't know if it is the age of the camera, or if I'm just
having a run of bad luck with software. Can anyone make a suggestion
(polite, please) as to how I might go about this? I'm working in W98.
