line contour extraction

Hi all,

 

I have a z-stack of an entangled meshwork of polymers (think of a pot of
spaghetti). Now I wouldlike to get the 3D contour of the single strands (I
am thinking of a vector of xyz values for every strand). I guess that there
is a plugin out there that is capable of doing this, but I can't seem to
find the right keywords to look for it.

Does anything come to your mind that could help me there?
