Please have a look at

should be possible to find two particular landmarks (as far apart as
possible) in both versions of the images that you can identify by straight
line selections.
After making the aligned version of one image, you can close the unaligned
version and then convert the images into a stack where switching between
slices should make it relatively easy to assess how different the images
are.
