At this point your only sensible option is to isolate all user tracking commits into a separate branch, reverting them from master and from the updater.

From the conversation in this mailing list, it is clear to me that the ImageJ 2 team has not thought through the wide implications of user and usage tracking.

The defensive tone of your replies suggests that a reflexive period of cooling, thought, planning and careful public disclosure is in order, or you risk alienating this very vibrant and extremely diverse community.

We appreciate very much the work that the ImageJ 2 team is putting in. Lets keep it at the highest standard.
