Inquiry regarding reach

Good morning,

 

As directed by Wayne Rasband, I am forwarding more information and another
request...  

Is there something else out there that can be used to solve our problem?  If
so, please recommend a simpler method that will give us what we need.  I am
inserting a curve from an excel spreadsheet that depicts an individual's
reach.

Original request:

I have been researching how to capture data points and resulting equation
that depicts an arc made by an individual to determine his reach capacity.
The resulting equation will then be used to predict whether or not the
individual will be able to reach future distances (locations).  Upon my
investigation, it seems as though we can use a digital camera to record a
video and/or snap a still shot that can be uploaded into Image J.  I would
then like to retrieve the data points and generate a prediction
model/algorithm/equation.

 

Is this feasible?  May I capture still shots and upload to Image J to get
the data points and curves? May I capture videos and gather data points and
curves from the videos in Image J?

 

 If so, please tell me how and/or direct me to instructions on how to
perform such.

Dear Bridget,

 

It is feasible but it will not be easy. The digital camera videos will need
to be converted into a format that ImageJ can read, such as an image
sequence or uncompressed AVI. Some macro programming will be required if you
need to analyze more than a handful of images. You can probably get better
help by asking on the ImageJ mailing list. When asking questions on the
list, it is a good idea to provide a link to one or more sample images.
