What's the best way to install Eclipse and ImageJ?

Hi,
I am not so happy about the way I installed Eclipse and ImageJ on Linux and
Mac. The way I did it before did not allow me to update ImageJ easily. So
now I would like to install them all over again.

What's the most recommended way to install Eclipse and ImageJ - on each of
the following operating systems:

Linux (Ubuntu), Mac and Windows.
