Code for image merge

Hi all,

We are developing a Java in-house application to handle our high-throughput images (all images are .tif, one image per channel).

Our computer people have to set up a function/code (I am not a coding person!) to allow us to have a cut out-view of  cells of interest (isolated following image treatment) from the original images either in channel 1, or channel 2, or channel..., or a merge of selected channels.
There is no problem for them in displaying any single channel, but they don't know what is and how to get a merge between images (channels) like what we are familiar with in ImageJ.

Could someone point us to the right code in order to obtain this type of composite image merging different channels?
