run("Hyperstack to Stack") doesn't work on opened images

We have Hyperstacks that are 4 channels 16 bits.

We want to make a montage (2X2) without converting the RGB.

Therefore, we tried run("Hyperstack to Stack");  However, nothing happens.  When we run this command on any hyperstack opened from a file, the command doesn't work.  However, if we duplicate the hyperstack and then run the command, it works fine.  We are running daily build, but this has been the behavior going back at least a few weeks.

Is this a bug or should we simply duplicate, make the montage, and then close both the duplicated and the original?
