Importing a single image from a multi-image TIFF

Hi, I am sure this must be possible, but I have so far not found a solution.

How do you import just the first image from a multi-image TIFF file (created using MicroManager)?

I could of course just import the whole stack, extract the first image and then close the unwanted slices, but I need to do this for thousands of files and so would prefer a better solution.
