I hope you mean .zvi or .czi. I have not heard of .zgi, and would be
saddened to hear that Zeiss has invented yet another file format... ;-)

Probably because you have the "virtual stack" option checked?
We never implemented that option for virtual stacks. It would only
autoscale your first plane anyway, because all the pixel values have not
yet been read (they are read on demand as you move the sliders).
