My thoughts...
Open an image with the distresses.
Try the different imaging processing features under the Process menu.
The Process>Binary would be helpful after you have enhanced the features
that you find useful.
Then the Edit>Selection menu might help.
Then Analyze>Measure et al.
If you find your doing the same thing over and over, the
Plugins>Macros>Record becomes useful.
After you have played a bit, the help menu becomes invaluable,
documentation and plugin repositories; and of course the listserv/forums.
