Dear Valeria,
In the case the solution proposed by Herbie isn't solving your issue, you should really spy on your computer to locate the origin of your memory issue.

Actually when this happens, ImageJ isn't crashed but you just need to be patient until the process resumes its work.
Due to the pandemic situation, I'm stuck at home using a machine which is really not powerful and in order to perform some calculations, I have no other choices than to sometimes close my internet browser (which is taking a lot of ressources) for them to be completed.

Did you try opening your stacks as virtual stacks?
This should work independent of the stack size.
