Calculating surface area fractions

Hi,
I am new user of Image j program. I have next question: Is it possible to
calculate surface area fractions for separate phases in the BSE
(backscattered electronimage of some sample? I tried to do it as described
in help pdf file, but it calculates only for darkest phase whereas we have
several phases.
Any help is appreciable.
