Concatenating virtual stacks and preserving overlays?

Hi,

I am trying to find a more efficient way to analyse some video I have collected using Micromanager.

My analysis comprises identifying when during the development of embryos particular developmental events occur. Currently I manually load the image sequence from each folder (time point), however I am working with hundreds of time points (and embryos) so this takes valuable time and also makes comparison of various time points cumbersome.

Is there a way of labelling virtual stacks (with overlays – in this instance I would label it with the file path so I can identify during the analysis the time at which that sequence was created) and then keeping the overlay if I concatenate the virtual stack with other labelled virtual stacks. I can label images and keep the labelling during concatenate when using non virtual stacks however this is too memory intensive for the volume of images I want to have stacked. So the aim is to have all image sequences for a particular stage position (embryo) loaded into a single virtual stack with labels so I know their origin.

All help and advice is very gratefully received.
