Continous width measure

szgaborr
Dear All,

I produce 1500 meter of some kind of tape with 3 cm width. It has changes in the width along the lenght. I would like to measure countinously the width of the tape and detect thin and thick areas.. I pull the tape continously and the tape is changed it’s width during the time. Please see the atteched photo. My idea is the following:

1.Set up the movie recorder.
2.Run this video with Imagej software.
3.Covert the video to black and white
4.Measured the width across the „red line” (see the picture)

Somebody can you help me? Iam a beginer at ImageJ. I solve the problem to numer 3., but I have problem with the measuring. I am looking for an automatic method. I would like to get a lot of measaure a lot of width value. Somebody can offer me an plugin or something solution?

Thank you.

Your best bet is to use Micro-Manager: http://micro-manager.org/. It
allows you to acquire images from a webcam and process them using ImageJ.

Ciao,
Johannes

P.S.: is this kind of tape some kind of hunting gear?

Hi Gabor,

Do you have to use an image based solution?
If not you should look into this technology from Keyence
http://www.keyence.com/products/measure/micrometer/ls7000/ls7000_applications_1_1.php

good luck,

John

Thanks Johannes, try is. Can you provide me any information about what is the method of process the recorded webcam images? I thinking in the automatic plugin, or something like that.

This tape is a kind of carbon fiber reinforced tape for composite and plastic applications.
