I cannot get the latest version of Fiji to run on my PC. I can still run the old version of the software, but it fails to open again after I update it. It shows the splash screen of Fiji, and nothing else happens.
My operating system is Windows 10, and I've made sure to have the latest version of Java installed. What else could I do in order to try and make Fiji work? Thanks in advance for any help or assistance. |

http://imagej.net/Troubleshooting#If_ImageJ_does_not_start_up You can discern why Fiji is failing to start up by launching it from the console: http://imagej.net/Troubleshooting#Launching_ImageJ_from_the_console You can also try downloading a fresh Fiji from: http://fiji.sc/#download Note that older versions of Fiji were distributed with a copy of Java 6, whereas current downloads of Fiji come with Java 8. I have already tried installing Fiji anew, to no avail. Also, I have 32-bit version of Windows. Honestly, I'm quite at a loss as to what to do next...
|
You could try using CCleaner to clean the reg. I had a strange situation where the exact same install of Fiji would work on one machine but not another. I have my Fiji in my Google Drive, and when using the work/home machines (nearly identical Dells) it would work on one by not the other. Even if I wiped and re-downloaded. I tried the CCleaner reg cleaner and it worked. Not sure what it does, but might be worth a shot.

Hello,
I had similar problems with some Win7 32bit machines. The Fiji logo appeared shortly on the screen, vanished and Fiji would not start. I installed it from scratch, sometimes it worked for a few times and then it stopped again. One time it helped to delete the "ImageJ-xxxx-_0-7.stub" file (as described in http://fiji.sc/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1238#c1) but this did not solve the problem permanently. Currently Fiji starts reliably with this short Cmd-file that restricts the memory for Fiji: @echo off start ImageJ-win32.exe --mem=1200m I do not think that memory is really the issue (Fiji worked nicely for at least a year on the same computer) but I can live with this solution. I have not seen any problems like this on 64bit Win7 computers. Klaus On 2 May 2016 at 11:42, ae2927 wrote: > I cannot get the latest version of Fiji to run on my PC. I have the same problem, when I get the latest version of Fiji a message of failed installation appears and Fiji fails to open again. My operating system is Windows 7. I attach the print screen that appears after the update.

Hello ae2927, hello Klaus,
we have addressed that issue in a recent release of the ImageJ launcher. This version is, however, not yet bundled with the latest Fiji release. It would be awesome, if you could test the latest launcher: Download it from http://jenkins.imagej.net/job/ImageJ-launcher/1260/label=Windows/artifact/target/ImageJ-win32.exe and copy it to your Fiji/ImageJ folder, replacing the old launcher. Before you start the executable, move the ImageJ.cfg (if there is one in your Fiji folder) to a safe location. Hello Stefan,
I tested it on two Win7, 32bit computers. On one machine with an up to date Fiji, both launchers seem to work now. Hello Patrizia,
could you try to download the most recent release from http://downloads.imagej.net/fiji/latest/fiji-win64.zip please? This link is now serving the most recent version of Fiji, thanks to Curtis. This release works fine on my Windows 10 (64-bit) VM. If that does not solve you problem, I would kindly ask you to follow the instructions at http://imagej.net/Troubleshooting#Launching_ImageJ_from_the_console to get more information (as instructed earlier by Curtis). Hi Patrizia,
We have just now (within the last 45 minutes or so) regenerated the Fiji download bundles to include the latest launcher linked earlier by Stefan. So it might be worth downloading Fiji again (http://fiji.sc/#download) and trying again. If you still have trouble, please: * Make a copy of ImageJ-win64.exe called debug.exe * Run debug.exe This should open a black text window with a detailed error message indicating what went wrong during startup. Hello Stefan and Curtis,
the most recent version works perfectly :) thank you very much!!!! Patrizia -----Messaggio originale----- Da: ImageJ Interest Group [mailto:[hidden email]] Per conto di Stefan Helfrich Inviato: martedì 3 maggio 2016 15:35 A: [hidden email] Oggetto: Re: R: Fiji won't open on Windows Hello Patrizia, could you try to download the most recent release from http://downloads.imagej.net/fiji/latest/fiji-win64.zip please? This link is now serving the most recent version of Fiji, thanks to Curtis. This release works fine on my Windows 10 (64-bit) VM. If that does not solve you problem, I would kindly ask you to follow the instructions at http://imagej.net/Troubleshooting#Launching_ImageJ_from_the_console to get more information (as instructed earlier by Curtis). On one machine with an up to date Fiji, both launchers seem to work now. On the second computer, the old launcher (last update in middle of March) failed but your new launcher worked. After Fiji started, it did a regular update and the launcher that came with the update seems to work also. > > Hope this helps, > Klaus > > On 3 May 2016 at 10:47, Stefan Helfrich wrote: > >> Hello ae2927, hello Klaus, >> >> we have addressed that issue in a recent release of the ImageJ >> launcher.
