ImageJ Upgrade Nightmare

Perry, Griffin M
Hey All,

I just upgraded from 1.34s to 1.35p and from JRE 1.31 to 1.50_3...and
now I can't do anything with ImageJ.  I've tried to uninstall, reinstall
back to 1.34s and JRE 1.31...to no avail.  HELP!

I'm running 1.35p along with 1.5.0.03 w/o problems (thus far) on WinXP
and Win2003. What I've noticed in the past were lock-ups (or slow-downs)
with some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. Especially the
combination of MS Spyware and F-Prot seems to cause severe problems on
some file types. Could this be your problem?

Hi,

I also experienced some problems by updating 1.35m to 1.35p by replacing
the ij.jar, for example missing buttons. Try the following way:

(1) uninstall ImageJ
(2) delete the "ImageJ" folder, keep/save the plugins you need
(3) install "jre-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p.exe" (if you have a 32bit Windows
system) from
https://jsecom15k.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet;jsessionid=88A61A8E2673D4235C399D9559AB6C19
(4) install ImageJ 1.35p from http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/download.html
(5) download the WCIF plugins from
http://www.uhnres.utoronto.ca/facilities/wcif/fdownload.html (if you want)

This works on all our machines (Win NT, 2000, XP, XP64).

cheers,

It was locking up...It took like 3 minutes for the open dialogue box to
open...after that, it took another few minutes for the single layer tiff
image to open.  I just moved into this lab, and I'm actually
reformatting all of these computers.  They're good machines; they just
have too much junk installed (Napster!  Napster is installed on one of
them!  The OLD Napster...).  I use Ad-Aware, but there were some other
anti-spyware programs installed.  I think it is also running a version
of Symantec AV.  I'm formatting that machine next week.  If anyone is
formatting soon, I suggest BelArc Advisor.  It goes through your
registry...and spits out useful info. (including Product Keys) that is
good to have around when reinstalling.

Thanks
