Just a comment on the vocabulary used in Edit>Options>Appearance>Use inverting lookup table... It would be more accurate to say "Use inverting values: black 255, white 0"
There is a difference between Edit>Invert and Image>Lookup Tables>Invert LUT. I always say to my students that it's safe to not modify the values with a «LUT» function meaning that it will just change the display appearance and not the values itself as in the Edit>Invert. May be you should change the term to make it more clear.
