Measuring the width and height along the x & y axis of a centroid of an object?

Is one of the available plugins or mocro capable of measuring the width and height of an irregularly shaped, somewhat elliptical, as measured along the x and y axis passing through the centroid of the object?   If not does anyone have any suggestions?
