The members of the ImageJ list may be interested in how we've implemented
ImageJ as part of our Moodle-based e-learning system. In a series of neuroimaging e-laboratories for undergraduates to be released by Science Approach this fall, an online implementation of ImageJ is used by students to display and gather data from images provided by collaborating scientists (ImageJ opens in a window overlay that includes the program and instructions for using it). Data gathered by the students is saved in a database, which is then used in an online implementation of the statistical program R to create graphs and calculate statistics. (In most of the e-labs, students add to an expert database, which is then used in the analysis.) The first e-lab to be released--"New Neurons for You After All"--is available for review on our website. In the e-lab, students replicate research conducted by Elizabeth Gould, Ph.D., on the effects of exercise and social living conditions on neurogenesis in rats. The e-lab is targeted for introductory and non-majors courses. We invite you to review the e-lab to see what we've done with ImageJ. Visit the Science Approach website (http://www.science-approach.com) and follow the instructions for registering and purchasing the e-lab. Enter the code ZMY4ZJ in the appropriate box when you reach the Checkout screen. The code gives you lifetime access to the e-lab. The code may be used through 31 December 2012. Additional ImageJ-based e-labs to be released in the near future are: 1. Seeing GABAA Receptors at Work: Quantifying Radioligand Binding and Its Modulation by Endogenous Signaling Molecules 2. Form and Function of Individual Neurons: Using Confocal Images and Modeling to Learn About Structure/Function Relationships in Nerve Cells 3. Your Brain Without Sleep: Analyzing How Sleep Deprivation Impacts Brain Function 4. Teen Brains on Alcohol and Other Drugs: Using fMRI to Assess Cognitive Damage and Predict Future Substance Use If you have questions about Science Approach's ImageJ-based e-labs, please send a message to me or via the contact form on the Science Approach website. *Development of the e-labs described above was supported by Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Grant Number R44MH070250 from the National Institute Of Mental Health. It is always nice to see that one's work is appreciated. Since you use the advanced applet version of ImageJ called ImageJA: you're welcome, Steven! Thank you, Johannes! In replying to your message I realized my omission in
not properly crediting ImageJA in my message, the e-lab, and its credits section. I've cleaned up the language in the tutorial section of the e-lab and inserted a credit in the proper section. Cheers.
